This ride was an approximate 300km at a time when I've not had as much riding as normal. The plan was to test a winter ride with only two trunk bags and see if I could maintain 6 hour 100km stages. There were two major climbs on this route: from Palmer up to Tungkillo, and then from Balhannah to the top of Greenhill Road.
Nine Hours - Twelve Hours - End
My moving speed sat at 18.3kmh with a total ride time of 18:33 hours. I had to take 30 stationary minutes of phone calls, and did not hurry through feed stops or eat on the bike, so I was pleased with the time, and with my performance on the large climbs at the end of the ride.
The route from Magill to Nuriootpa is back streets (Beulah Road and the Port Adelaide Greenway) and bike paths (Northern Connector and Barossa Bike Path). Later in the evening, most of the distance between Mt Torrens and Oakbank was spent on the Amy Gillet Bike path. By evening (Angaston) the road traffic is quite light.
I plan now to see if I can extend this to 600km in six hour 100km stages.
